2018 deer

Postby Woody » Tue Apr 10, 2018 11:26 am

Had a look in Clements the week before easter. Sika making small scrapes, but already the place is loading up with a high hunter population.

Went out for a look at spot ‘x’ this arvo. Have being out a couple of times in the last week n hadn’t seen a thing. Not out early enough or where tucked away due to incoming inclement weather. Struck it luck tonight though. Saw a yearling, a doe, a buck n a prickett. The buck was one I had seen last Sunday but hadn’t seen his antlers as he disappeared on me. Managed to see them tonight....alas only a pup about 3/4 year old. Dicesion (sp) time..Thought process 1. I’m after a buck. Check.

I have the same size antler(at least) hanging in the shed. Potentially could be better, not by much though. Check antler not big enough.

I have meat in the freezer. Check. Could also shoot the yearling so don’t NEED the buck for meat.

So I let it go n didn’t even bother shooting the yearling.

As Arnie said in Terminator 2....”I’ll be back...”

Ninja's up at Te Puke tops at the mo. Be a bit cool up there I reckon, but he's a good hunter so I hope he finds a good stag. Wifey and me going to an easy block mid May where we hope to perch overlooking a good clearing. Hope the sun comes out but.
