That's not a bad tally 'Dundee'. Was the weather fine, warm, and calm like it was here. No Parries or don't you count them?

Damned good idea those eels. Their batteries never go flat.

By hell that black lab bitch of mine 'boy' put in some work this season. She had a young pup learning the ropes from her this time which made it hard for her as it kept trying to take the duck off her.

'Boy' swam in once with two mallard drakes in her mouth, I suppose she thought the pup would steal one if she left it. Unfortunately no camera at the time otherwise I would have put it in a magazine. It did happen last year as well.

She is in her prime when it comes to retrieving, very few birds are ever lost. I have never seen her so buggered though after three days of shooting. On the way out which is a 9 km run for the dogs she set a very moderate pace but I saw her run off the track at one point. A kilometre further along she overtook the bike with a live duck in her mouth.

Opening at Reporoa was quite foggy and most birds were well above it and out of sight until late morning. The creek we shoot in is deep and margins are about belly to over-your-head depth in muddy wet swamp. We tend to stand in chest waders with dog in canoe or on a handy carex head. It can be hard work and a lot of patience is required. Two of us took a moderate mixture of mallard, greys and greylards plus some Canada geese.

Second weekend Burl and I headed for Rotoehu forest. By the end of the day we were bleeding more than the three pheasant we took but the hunt was satisfying. The pics are selfies. The birds were in heavy cover. One took us over 2 hours perseverance to retrieve amongst very heavy blackberry and tangled vine infested felled trees in forest understory. The roosters were fat in great condition. 34-36 bars .

Another retrieve for Burl. An easy one for a change he reckons :)
