Yea was stoked especially with all the nay sayers around

I have never caught a JD or even seen one caught and had never eaten one until recently when Mikee dropped one off. Very nice eating.

I recently bought a softbaiting setup and plan to try and catch one or two of these elusive John Dory.

Cant beat a little livey for Johnys bro but they do take softies too. They have a very soft mouth and you can pull the hooks easy. You should be able to tell its a johny as they are like a big dead weight, so if ya get a big dead weight, take it easy, it might be john :D

Use a landing net for the John Dory 'Cam'. So many are lost between the water and the boat. A livey at slack water is what I use and when I fish for them.

Even though we are getting well into July we had a great days fishing. Nice fish, nice colour and nice condition.
We moved a couple of times before we really got onto them at the mouth of the Te Kouma harbour.

I caught the John Dory on a very small snapper that I didn't know I had on. We netted the John Dory and lifted him on board where he spat the small snapper 'he wasn't even hooked'.Image

Hallo Pengy, How are you, I didn't know they made peanut butter in Nelson. I like Nelson even better if it makes peanut butter, we spent quite a bit of time in and around Nelson in the yacht. I think if we were to live anywhere else it would be Taihape first then Nelson.
We spent the day yesterday getting used to all the islands off our bay which is Omaru Bay. 16 in total. My fishing mate is from the far north and he was impressed and said it is better than the Bay Of Islands. He should know. I believe he is right.

My impression of BOI is that the whole area is far too commercialised for my liking. Give me the Coromandel any day.
Nelson is very nice, but lacks the great fishing you have up there.

Get the right people behind promoting Coro for tourism, and it would leave Able tasman in the dust in a lot of respects. BUT. Every backpacker and camper van that comes through Nelson seems to be heading to Able. They drive straight past the wonderfull Coromandel.
