I kicked off New years day with this at a farmers BBQ by the river.

Then on the 2nd of January another solid rainbow.

3rd January With welcome rain starting to fall.

That last trout in the pic was caught on an articulated streamer my eldest boy made.
I have landed a total of 7 trout this year.

Great looking fish all of them. It will cut down the cost if you can make your own flies and spinners.

You could cut the bottoms out of your Brown Bomber cans Dundee and fashion spinners from them.

If you make your own flies then you wont have to get the Royal Knackers wet trying to retrieve them from a snag.

Great fish from you 'Dundee' and Mrs Dundee. Getting bigger every day. I wish we were close enough to swap a few fish.

I have just got back from the Mussel Farm.

I don't know why but the hens are spawning now.Only logical explanation is the floods in the winter may have delayed this. They are certainly in great condition.

Spawning among the snapper and flounder are all to hell as well 'Dundee' we think spawn was delay by the colder water temp this year. Soon we will be saying they are all early for next year.

Most things were delayed about 6 weeks this year. Grass growth, Spawning fish, the deer coming out on the open tops, and the pohutakawa's, well they hav'nt really flowered up the coast at all this year either.

Even El Nino and its predicted terrible droughts have turned out to be a damp squib. I feel sorry for all the farmers that de stocked accordingly and consequently wont make what they could have.
