Fishing today

Postby Packhorse » Tue May 10, 2016 6:15 pm

I think this deserves its own thread. Bossman told us yesterday "righto boys were going fishing tomorrow we want to be leaving by 8:30." We were on our way just before 8:30 off to Raglan.

A bit of a swell when we launched n off to open water. Stopped about 32 metres as the fish finder said "fish!!"..there was but bait fish n small kahawai. Off out to 45 metres with only one other rec boat and a trawler. Both boats buggered off n we were on our own. About three fish in (between four rods) I landed my first fish for the day n it was a snapper..nothing flash good eater n caught using own rod n gear. This has being a long time coming...Image
More fish were caught throughout the day with kahawai being the main species followed by snaps then gurnard. Caught three more snaps myself and a couple kahawai. Image

Chasing Trevally. The whole harbour is full of them and though we caught a lot not a single one was big enough to keep.
Settled for 9 springer Kahawai.
