Wearing shorts while surf casting is the penalty for failure to learn how to cast far enough. So is getting wet balls.
Misspent youth, he should have been out practicing with his 'fishing rod'.

Damned sister in law went to spot a week ago and caught some real nice trevally.

Wife took these photos including the obvious landmark in the background.

Beautiful calm morning. We will go fishing, probably launch at Waikawau in case the southerly gets up a bit later.

Water beautifully clear and not a ripple on it. A good start, two nice fish in the first minuteImage.

We stay a little way back from the crowd and sit on the row that has just been harvested.

Kingi. He wouldn't take a hook so I had a go with the gaff. I don't know who got the biggest fright me or him but he was in the boat before he could think about what he was going to do next.

It took not much more than an hour to get all the fish on board except the kingi. We decided to have lunch and coffee then as we had been too busy before. While we were doing that we had a play with the 5 kingi's that were hanging around the boat. We caught two but only the one I gaffed was big enough to take home. Cheeky bugger wouldn't look at a hook but would come up an practically take bait from your fingers. Very fat fish he is, so it is the smoke house for him.Image
