Shore Fishing

Postby Scribe » Tue Jun 13, 2017 11:35 am

Maori have a saying. 'There is a time for everything and everything has its time'

This relates to the philosophy that only fat food should be taken so that one is truly rewarded for the effort involved.

Trevally are in the harbours now and are really fat and are great fun for surf casters. I have a spot
that produces lovely fish. Is was not really on last Saturday as some days I can catch them as fast as I can get a bait out to them.

Is that chili sauce you are using on the fish instead of the usual brown sugar

It is indeed sweet chili sauce 'hunter 308'. The favourite around here used to be a paste of vinegar and brown sugar but that has been overtaken by the above.

For a mid winter day the weather sure was nice, so decided to go get some trevally. I headed for my favourite surf casting spot to sling a line.
The sea God was generous and I caught about 20 of these. I just kept five for us.
Interesting thing with trevs is the seem to hang around in schools of about the same body size. So some days you get all small ones, some days big ones and yesterday all mediums. They are a great eating fish eaten fresh.
