Pretty sunrise over the mountains this morning and I see a couple of Kayak fisherman sneaking out to our nearest mussel Farm. The harvester was working there yesterday but I bet they know that too.

I am heading off in a few minutes too. We launch at Kerata as it is about half way between Thames and Coromandel and my fishing mate comes from Thames. Wish me luck. What the hell I am going to do with all the fish I don't know as I am heading for the Big Duck Swamp tomorrow morning.

A bit of a free for all around the harvester. These guys tend to be soft baiting so we stay well out of the road and tie up to a mussel buoy that has been freshly harvested.

During harvesting fishing is predictable or as predictable as fishing ever gets, here at the farms. What is not predictable is how fish are going to act on the day. 10 days ago every decent fish that took a bait ended up in our fish bin. Today though it was different. We only landed about 1 in five of the decent fish we hooked. It must have been the way they were approaching the bait, instead of gutsing it they must have been running around with it in their mouth. What appeared to be solid hookups turned out often to be anything but. Image
