Road end camps....show them....

Postby scouser » Wed Jun 24, 2015 10:29 am

When i started hunting, just over two years ago, i went into it as "tramping with a rifle"....using my previous experience camping, ie, a tent, sitting on a log hunched over a gas bottle cooking.....NO luxury at all....then i was very fortunate to accept an invitation to go to "Rushy's Roost"......

well, what an eye opener that was......needless to say i have quite unashamedly copied the guys style....heres a couple of camp set ups!!!!

Clements Mill Road, Kaimanawas....yes thats a patio heater on the floor......

Rushy's Roost Whirinaki......

No going back to the old days for me!!!!...Cheers Rushy.....

On ya Scouser. Thanks for the plug. It has been so long that that place is a distant memory.

Not a road end camp. More a end of the trail Camp.Image

This fly camp we put in, Jim Warren and I, on a bench on the side of the Otupae Range above the Taruarau River, where Blowfly Gully joins the river. I remember this camp with great fondness for the good weather, plentiful deer, and the great trout fishing.

We were both shooting on bonus then. It was 71 and we are bloody miles off our blocks. And they used to pay us well for this, If only they had have known I would have done it for nothing. After Vietnam it was such a great life. The half tents and mattress covers show the military links.

I certainly do but for the moment my every spare hour is spent getting my new property in shape Packhorse. I will have a weekend away with some GC's next weekend but not hunting (although I think that much will be spoken about). Come the spring I will be back in the hills I am sure.
