Took the two boys out from Kerata to fish the Firth. The fishing is hard with the highest tide of the year and a full moon. We caught some nice fish but had to work hard for them in fairly rough conditions. It will be a few more weeks before the fishing really hits its straps.

Sneaked out of bed at 5.30 made lunch and were on the water at 6.30. We stayed in the harbour until the tide changed and started running out again.
By then we had a Fat Kingie, A nice trevally, a kahawai, plus about four nice Snapper.
With the tide running out we fished at the entrance of Te Kouma Harbour. When the snapper came on we could have filled the boat. We stopped when caught our eighth snapper. The fish were all in top condition.

Weather is bad. Fishing is bad. But hunting is worse. Looking out the window through the murk and mist at a couple of charter boats trying to find fish for their customers. Very hard to do around here at this time of the year. Lots of little fish though.
I used to think being a fishing guide or a hunting guide would be great, fishing and hunting the year away, that was until I spent a couple of seasons as a hunting guide. Unfortunately human nature being what it is your client is not satisfied unless he gets the 12 pointer or the 20 pound snapper.
The punter forgetting that he has only brought a chance of these dreams puts the pressure on. Hunting or fishing under pressure is the least enjoyable way of spending time and it interferes with the mindset required for a successful hunt or fish.

Dog 'BOY' recognised the open mouth as aggression and was ready to have a go at it. She had a very precarious perch so she had to hang on. You can pull any fish up without worry with her but drop one into the boat with its mouth open like a stargazer and it gets a different reaction from the dog.
Sorry we got two dogs and two sharks but I cant figure out how to fix it.

Just out in the bay this morning. Big old boys all five of them with tatty worn out fins. Still a bit of life in them though they were willing for a little bit of a race. Fishing was poor only 9 fish between 4 of us. Mussels were good and fat though.
