Armed reconnaissance

Postby Packhorse » Sat Apr 21, 2018 7:57 am

Got back last night from taking quad, rifle and family to Piropiro Flats. Only went for the night as wife had to go back to work today. Kids when they got there and started doing stuff wanted to stay for another night or two. Oh well we’ll have to come back again.

Managed to scratch a long standing itch by going to a place I’d got a bit ‘bushed’ in. Went for explore in the general vicinity by following a quad track (on foot, I had a quad)

for a bit I reckoned it will lead to a area that I was told about years ago and hadn’t found. I’ll definitely be coming sooner than the last time as I now have the perfect cover( kids ). I pulled out as it was getting dark n I wasn’t doing a serious hunt. Back to camp kids cooked tea...

Off to bed and after a pretty good sleep we woke up to discover holes and drips in our tent. Oh well time for a possible replacement. After brekky and a pack up we head off for a walk to the longest suspension bridge on DOC land(apparently). I have to say it was well worth the walk.

Took a few photos and had a yak with a guy doing track maintenance. After he worked out that I had lived locally we compared war stories for a bit. He told us about a short cut back....it was a shortcut alright it would of saved us 40 mins walking. All in all a awesome trip and can’t wait to go back there.

Nah didn’t see any deer prints. Saw a bit of fresh pig rooting though.
